Dr. Kirbyjon Caldwell
Scripture Reference: Matthew 4:7–10
This week at The Windsor Village Church Family, Visionary Leader Dr. Kirbyjon Caldwell delivered a powerful message reminding us that worship isn’t just what we do—it’s who we are. He taught that when we understand the purpose and purity of true worship, it changes how we walk, how we live, and how we overcome every spiritual battle.
The Test of Worship
The Lord led Jesus into the test—not the devil. And in that test, Jesus showed us what to do when the enemy comes after your worship.
Dr. Caldwell reminded us that once you bow down and worship the devil, he’s got you. If you worship anyone or anything other than the Lord God Almighty, you are in trouble.
He led the congregation in this powerful declaration:
“I will worship the Lord only. I am a worshiping warrior.”
When the devil is after you, say what Jesus said:
“Away with you, Satan!”
There’s a War Going On
Dr. Caldwell referenced the “War of 1812” song, noting that wars crack and break things—and there’s a war inside of each of us.
We face:
-
Missiles of misinformation
-
Bullets of unbelief
The devil wants to crack your worship.
You can tell the enemy is trying to break you when you:
-
Worry about tomorrow,
-
Regret yesterday, or
-
Feel uncertain about today.
Before Jesus began His public ministry, the devil tried to mess with His worship.
“You can tell what’s important to God by what the devil attacks.”
Many of us don’t realize that the enemy has cracked our worship—and we’ve adjusted to it.
You Become What You Worship
Dr. Caldwell connected two wisdom books—Proverbs and Psalms—to reveal that thought and worship shape identity:
-
Proverbs 23:7 — “As a person thinks, so is he.”
-
Psalm 115:8 — “Those who make idols will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.”
From these verses, we learn that what we think and what we worship directly affect who we are.
Created to Worship
We were created for one divine purpose—to worship.
“You were created to worship because God chose you to worship.”
Before the earth was formed, there were angels, each with a distinct assignment:
-
Michael — Warfare
-
Gabriel — Word
-
Lucifer — Worship
Lucifer’s voice was unmatched. His role was to direct all glory to God, but pride caused his downfall. He sought worship for himself and led others astray. Jesus said, “I saw Satan fall like lightning.”
Heaven needed a new sound—so God created us. But unlike the angels, who were made to worship, we were chosen to worship.
“Voluntary worship is purer than involuntary worship.”
God trusts us to choose Him freely. When you worship in spite of pain or confusion, that worship moves the heart of God.
“When you give God glory in spite of, God will honor your praise.”
We don’t worship a god—we worship The God. Everything about our existence is designed for worship.
Worship Is Who We Are
Acts of worship include reading Scripture, singing songs, lifting hands, and tithing—but Dr. Caldwell challenged us to go deeper:
“I pray that worshiping isn’t something we do, but something we are.”
We are worshipers—therefore, we worship.
Just as toothpaste naturally comes out of the tube, may worship flow out of us when life squeezes us.
How We Worship Who We Worship Is Critical
When it comes to worship, both how we worship and who we worship are critical.
Dr. Caldwell explained that approaching the King requires reverence and order:
-
When the King walks in, you stand.
-
Men bow, women curtsy.
-
You don’t speak unless the King gives permission.
When you walk into the sanctuary, you are walking into the presence of The King—the One worthy of all praise.
If you choose not to come to church, it often means something else has taken the place of giving God His glory.
“The church is where the kingdom action is.”
Everything we are and everything we have, we owe to the King.
Who We Worship
Jesus is both completely God and completely man—the God-Man.
After Jesus commanded Satan to leave, two things happened:
-
The devil left.
When you pray to God the King in the name of Jesus, He will deliver you from whatever has you bound.
-
The angels came and ministered to Him.
If angels ministered to the One who has all power, imagine how they can minister to you.
Whatever your need, as Psalm 91 declares, God will dispatch His angels on your behalf.
Final Takeaway
We were created to be worshiping warriors—standing firm, confident, and unshaken, no matter what the devil throws our way.
Our worship is our weapon. When we worship, we win.
So today, make this declaration your own:
“I will worship the Lord only. I am a worshiping warrior.”
This message was life-changing and perspective-shifting. To fully experience its power, I encourage you to listen to the full sermon for yourself and let it strengthen your worship and your walk.
