The Power of Community: We need Unity Pt. 1
Introduction:
Over the last several weeks, we’ve been diving into Worship. We discovered that:
-
We were created to worship.
-
We must have a heart of worship.
-
Worship should be our lifestyle.
-
Worship includes how we present ourselves to God.
We concluded that worship is not just something we do—worship is who we are.
Today, we shift to a new but connected theme: Community.
Psalm 133:1 (NIV) –
“How good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters live together in unity!”
First, let’s define it:
Community is a deep spiritual connection and fellowship shared among believers who are united in their faith in Jesus Christ.
Simply put, community is a sense of belonging. It’s essential for any environment that wants to thrive and produce good fruit. Here’s the truth: If we want to succeed as a ministry and fulfill what God has designed for us, community must be present.
That leads to the question: How do we build community?
Over this month, we’ll unpack practical steps, and today we begin with the first one: Unity.
How do we accomplish unity? Through three commitments:
(Needs to be on Screen)3
-
We must stick together.
-
We must learn to coexist with each other.
-
We must work as one team.
Point 1: We Must Stick Together!
It’s easy to stay united when things are good. But true community is tested when times get hard.
When difficulties come, will we still choose each other? Will we stand strong in commitment and character?
The truth is, no one else can answer that for you—you have to decide it for yourself.
For community to work, all of us must commit to sticking together—in the good, in the bad, and even in the stuck moments of life.
God’s mandate for His people is clear: Stick together!
Point 2: We Must Learn to Coexist With Each Other!
Psalm 133:1 says it is good and pleasant when God’s people live together in unity. God loves it when we live in peace and respect—even in our differences.
When we coexist:
-
We are stronger together.
-
We work smarter, not harder.
-
We become stronger, faster, and better than we ever could be alone.
But when we refuse to coexist, we create division instead of unity. Division weakens our ability to build a strong community. (Needs to be on Screen)
Point 3: We Must Work as a Team!
Teamwork makes the dream work!
We are a team—regardless of what we look like, wear, or feel. And if teamwork is not our priority, failure will be the result.
Recently, many of you wrote on flashcards about what you long for in this ministry. One word kept coming up over and over: Community.
That desire is powerful. But community doesn’t just happen—it must be built. And the way we build it is through teamwork.
There is no “I” in Team.
We need each other to make this Outbreak experience everything God designed it to be.
Conclusion / Interaction Moment:
Game: Jump the River
Description:
Two ropes are placed on the ground like riverbanks. At first, they’re close together and easy to jump across. Each round, they’re moved farther apart until no one can cross alone.
Tie-In to Psalm 133:1:
At the start, jumping alone is easy—just like life sometimes feels manageable by ourselves. But as the river widens, we reach a point where we need help.
That’s what community is for. Just like the game, we need each other to succeed, to strategize, and to cross life’s “rivers.”
Spiritual Lesson:
Unity is not optional—it’s God’s design. Community is the place where His blessing flows. Psalm 133:1 celebrates that truth: “How good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters live together in unity.”
Bottom line:
We were never meant to jump life’s river alone. Community helps us cross together.
