Recharging My Faith – Part 2

Recharge means to restore energy, strength, or vitality that has been depleted. Spiritually, it is the process of being renewed and strengthened by the presence, power, and Word of God. When our faith feels drained, God invites us to reconnect with Him so we can continue living and serving with joy, faith, purpose, and peace.

Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

What Is Faith?

Faith is trusting what God said, even when what we see says otherwise.

(Discussion Moment: Students are encouraged to briefly talk with a partner and share how they would define faith.)

Introduction

Faith doesn’t grow weak because God stopped speaking. Faith grows weak when we stop listening. Romans 10:17 reminds us that faith comes by hearing—and hearing by the Word of God. When life drains us, fear rises, and the noise of the world gets louder, what we need is not more motivation, but a recharge.

To recharge is to be restored and renewed by God’s presence, power, and Word so that we can continue moving forward with confidence and purpose.

As we honor Black History Month, we reflect on the life of Harriet Tubman—a woman who lived by faith and not by sight. Born into slavery and surrounded by danger, everything she saw told her to stay bound. Yet she trusted what God had spoken to her heart. By listening for God’s voice and following His leading, she walked toward freedom—even when freedom was not yet visible. Her faith was continually recharged by trusting God’s Word, giving her courage not only to find freedom herself, but to lead others there as well.

Her life reminds us that real faith means trusting what God said, even when what we see says otherwise. In Recharging My Faith – Part 2, we learn how to plug back into God’s Word so our faith can be renewed and strengthened.

1. Faith Begins With Hearing

If you are struggling with your faith, the first question to ask is: What am I hearing? Just as our bodies need healthy food to grow and stay strong, our faith needs the right input to grow. When we constantly hear doubt, negativity, or fear, faith weakens. But when we hear God’s Word—His promises, truth, and love—faith is strengthened.

Hearing is more than sound; it is fuel. What you allow into your heart and mind matters. Choose messages that point you back to God, because hearing His Word is how faith begins and continues to grow.

2. God’s Word Is the Source of Faith

God’s Word is full of promises, lessons, empowerment, and real-life examples that build faith. Scripture repeatedly shows how God works in people’s lives, keeps His promises, and proves Himself faithful.

Often, we look for answers from things that are not true sources—people, situations, or our own understanding. These things can fail or leave us empty. But God’s Word is an endless source of life and power. It is dependable, unshakable, and trustworthy.

Romans 10:17 reminds us that faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Scripture doesn’t just give information—it gives life. When we consistently read and hear God’s Word, we tap into a source that never runs dry and build our faith on something eternal.

3. You Must Make the Effort

God provides the resources, guidance, and opportunities for our faith to grow—but He never forces growth. The choice is ours. We have ears, but we must choose to hear. Faith grows when we intentionally put ourselves in position to receive God’s Word through Scripture, worship, teaching, and community.

Growth doesn’t happen by accident. God sets the stage and supplies what we need, but we must take action. The responsibility to grow our faith belongs to us. The question is simple: Will you choose to hear God’s Word and let it shape your life?

Conclusion: Connecting the Dots

Faith is like a battery—it can run low if it is not recharged. Imagine faith at the center, with four connections that help restore it:

  • Hearing God’s Word
  • Prayer
  • Obedience
  • Fellowship

Each connection strengthens faith when we intentionally engage with it. Faith does not grow on its own; it grows when we listen to God, talk to Him, follow Him, and surround ourselves with people who encourage us.

Reflection Question: Which connection will you strengthen this week to recharge your faith?
