Have you ever wondered if you’ll be ready when the opportunity you’ve been praying for finally arrives? Sunday’s message reminded us that God doesn’t call us to opportunities without first preparing us for them. The title of the message, “I’m Not Going to Miss My Shot,” challenged us to recognize that preparation precedes purpose.
Be Prepared Before the Opportunity Comes
David didn’t become courageous when he faced Goliath. He was courageous long before he ever stepped onto the battlefield.
As a shepherd, David faithfully protected his father’s sheep. When lions and bears attacked the flock, he fought them and trusted God for victory. Those private battles became the foundation for his public victory.
Many times we wonder why we’re facing difficult tests or seasons that seem unnoticed. But God uses those hidden moments to develop our faith, strengthen our character, and prepare us for the assignments He has ahead. The tests you are facing today may be the very thing God uses to prepare you for your greatest opportunity tomorrow.
Preparation may not always feel exciting, but it is always purposeful.
God Has Already Given You What You Need
When David approached Goliath, he didn’t rely on Saul’s armor or someone else’s experience. Instead, he reached into the brook, selected five smooth stones, took the sling he already knew how to use, and ran toward the giant in confidence.
David understood something we often forget: God has already equipped us for what He has called us to do.
Sometimes we spend so much time wishing we had different gifts, more resources, or better circumstances that we overlook what God has already placed in our hands. Your experiences, your testimony, your gifts, and your relationship with God are not accidents—they are part of His preparation.
The Lord Is Your Shepherd
Psalm 23:1 reminds us:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Because the Lord is our Shepherd, we don’t have to fear being unprepared. He provides everything necessary for every assignment He gives us. If God has opened a door, He has already supplied the grace, wisdom, and strength you’ll need to walk through it.
Our confidence is not in ourselves but in the God who prepares us.
Don’t Miss Your Shot
When David finally stood before Goliath, there was no hesitation. He trusted the God who had been faithful in the pasture would be faithful on the battlefield.
The same God who prepared David is preparing you.
Don’t despise your current season. Don’t overlook the lessons you’re learning or the victories you’ve already won. Every test has a purpose, and every season of preparation is leading somewhere.
When your opportunity comes, step forward in faith. Trust that God has been preparing you all along.
You’re prepared for the shot. You already have what you need. Don’t miss the opportunity God places before you.
