📖 Ephesians 2:8–9

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Pastor Troy’s message this week was rich and heavy with truth about salvation.

What is Salvation?

Introduction

Grace is the heartbeat of our faith. It’s not just a concept — it’s a miracle.
Grace is God’s love in action.

We live in a world that celebrates effort. From a young age, we’re taught to earn everything — achievements, approval, success. But salvation doesn’t work like that. You can’t buy it, earn it, or work for it. You can only receive it.

We are saved because God is good, not because we are. Salvation is by grace, and grace alone.

Grace means unmerited favor — kindness or goodwill freely given. It reminds us of our true identity in Christ.
In Ephesians 2, Paul explains how grace really works:

“By grace, through faith, we are saved.”

1. God’s grace is the reason we’re saved.

Salvation begins and ends with grace. It’s not based on our good works — it’s built on the foundation of God’s mercy.
Paul says grace did it all. God saved us through Jesus Christ, not because we were good, but because we were helpless.
We didn’t just need a resuscitation — we needed a resurrection. We were spiritually dead, and God raised us to life.
Salvation isn’t the result of discipline or devotion — it’s the result of God’s goodness.

And here’s the humbling truth: that reality destroys spiritual pride. It leaves no room for arrogance.
We’re all invited to the same cross, offered the same love. It’s like the parable Jesus told — where workers hired at different times all received the same pay (Matthew 20). Grace isn’t about fairness. It’s about generosity.

Reflection:

Am I trying to prove something to God, or simply receiving what He already gave me? Grace humbles us — and frees us.

2. Faith is the door, not the work.

Faith doesn’t earn grace — it receives it.
It’s not a performance or a strength test. Faith is surrender. It’s letting go of our own power and placing full trust in God.
Many people try to earn what God freely gives, but grace doesn’t come with qualifications. It comes by faith.

Faith opens the door for grace to do its work.

We don’t need perfect faith — we need real faith. The kind of faith that says, “I don’t fully understand, but I receive it.”
Every day, God offers brand-new mercies. Even mustard-seed faith is enough to step into the grace He’s already prepared for us.

Reflection:

Have I been trying to earn grace or prove I’m worthy? Or am I trusting God with open hands, saying, “I believe — help my unbelief”?

3. Salvation wasn’t our idea — it was God’s plan.

We didn’t chase God down — He came for us.
From the very beginning, God had a plan to save us. Salvation is that unexpected, undeserved gift. You didn’t see it coming, but it came with your name on it.

“Grace found me, carried me, and is holding me.”

That’s the testimony of every saved soul. We didn’t make it happen. God reached out and called us by name.

Reflection:

Take a moment to remember when grace found you. Let gratitude rise again — not because you figured it out, but because God came for you.

4. Salvation is pure and simple.

God didn’t complicate salvation — we do.
Salvation is simple: God blesses you.
You didn’t earn it, so don’t try to take credit for it. The price was paid by Jesus, and the right response is a humble and grateful “Thank You.”

Reflection:

Do I try to complicate grace or make it harder than it is? Today, let go of striving. Simply receive — and say thank you.

Final Thought: Are You Saved?

That’s the question that matters. Not “Are you good?” or “Are you trying?”
But “Are you saved?”

If you’re not sure, you don’t have to leave that question unanswered. Grace is here. The door is open. Faith is your yes.
God already did the work — your job is to receive the gift.
