Title: Worship Skill Sets
“WORSHIP!”
Introduction
It is virtually impossible to overemphasize how important your worship is to The
Lord. Consider the following:
- Of the six (6) petitions in The Model Prayer, one-third of the petitions deal with worship.
- Of the Ten Commandments, four (4) of the Commandments deal with worship. Exodus 20:3-11
- When Jesus was born, The Creator used angels and stars to call attention to Jesus’ worship worthiness – Luke 2:8,9 and Matthew 2:9; and
- We become like the object of our worship. Psalm 115:8
Also, consider the following practicalities:
- The devil will pester you consistently until you settle your (personal) worship issue – Luke 4:9-13.
- When The Lord inhabits (yasab) your praise, you are locking The Lord into your situation – Psalm 22:3; and
- When The Lord inhabits your praise, you become pregnant with The Lord’s character!
Worship Is Sacrificial. Matthew 1:18-20, 24, 25
- When Mary became pregnant, Joseph did not leave his “betrothed”, Mary.
- Joseph blocked out the noise from the “haters” and remained focused on Mary.
- Joseph travelled over 90 miles on foot, from Galilee to Bethlehem, to register for the census.
- Obedience is an expression of worship. Joseph was obedient, despite the very embarrassing social circumstances.
Worship Is Cerebral. Know Your ABC’s. Psalm 42:3-5
- David provides an exemplary model for praise “in the dump”.
- Acknowledge your despair.
- Believe in the power of the Word (v. 4) more than the power of the world (v. 3).
- Confess your hope in The Lord and confess your praise (v. 5c); and
- Decide to choose hope over despair (v. 5c).
Worship Shifts. Habakkuk 3:17-19
- Habakkuk and Judah were experiencing absolute economic chaos in the community.
- In the face of a famine and profound financial dryness, Habakkuk rejoiced!
- Habakkuk rejoiced for two (2) reasons: a) Habakkuk invested his trust in The Lord; and b) Habakkuk did NOT place any trust in his assets.
- When Habakkuk’s assets failed, Habakkuk succeeded because he worshipped correctly.
Worship Is Supernatural. Acts 16:16-2
- Paul and Silas were flogged and placed in a maximum-security prison. Their feet were in stocks.
- They were in prison at midnight. Midnight represents the darkest hour.
- Instead of giving in to despair, Paul and Silas worshipped.
- The Lord responded to their worship by using His creation to facilitate Paul and Silas’ freedom!
- When Paul and Silas worshipped, ALL the prisoners were set free.
Summary
When your worship is sacrificial, cerebral, and supernatural, your worship shifts perspectives, places, positions, and persons!
Paul and Silas did not worship The Lord to get out of prison. They worshipped Him because they believed The Lord was King over the prison!
Habakkuk and David did not worship The Lord to change their situations. They worshipped The Lord because they believed He was King over their despair and desperation!
How about you?!
