“VICTORIES FROM THE VALLEY!”
1 SAMUEL 17:2
INTRODUCTION
When someone says “victory”, you probably instinctively think on top. Similarly, when someone says “valley”, you probably instinctively think: bottom. Today’s message takes a non-traditional view of a very traditional story.
In 1 Samual 17, David will show us how to gain victories (from the top) while we are in one of life’s valleys. In fact, today we will also see how to use “valley resources” to obtain victories! Just because you are in a valley does not mean a valley has to be in you!
You can holla and hallelujah all you want from the “ridges of life”, but the battle must be fought and won in the valleys. Goliath was in the valley in 1 Samuel 17. Your goliaths are in the valleys too!
THE SITUATION
- Goliath, the Elab valley, and the smooth stones play a pivotal role in David’s victory. What do these three (3) represent in your life?
- Goliath, the nine-foot giant who defied The Lord, represents anything or anyone who is trying to defeat you or kill you. Everyone has at one point in time.
- The Elab valley represents how you feel when you are being attacked by a goliath. Sadness, shame, and fear are just a few examples.
- The smooth stones represent the weapons you use to silence or defeat your goliath(s)

THE SMOOTH STONES 40
- Isaiah 44:3; John 7:38, 39; and Titus 3:5, 6
- Smooth stones are created by flowing waters.
- The Holy Spirit, represented by water, produces smooth stones as well. Smooth stones are your weapons!
- Smooth stones are faster, more accurate, and more forceful than sharp-edged stones.
- The Holy Spirit is ALL that – and then some!
