“A BLESSING!”
Genesis 12:1-3
I. INTRODUCTION
Today’s message is not a sermon. It is a blessing! Taken from the Abrahamic Covenant blessing in Genesis 12: 1-3, today’s blessing will enrich your life with the living Word. The scope, size and significance of The Lord’s spoken blessings on Abraham in Genesis 12:13 are so incredible they are virtually incomprehensible! It maybe incomprehensible to you; but, for The Lord, it is VERY doable. In fact, The Lord is doing it! The Lord performs what He promises. Romans 4:21
You are invited and encouraged to believe and trust The Lord to perform Genesis 12:1-3 for you and your family, starting today! Galatians 3:29 is the door that opens the Abrahamic blessing to you!
Please remember: this is not a sermon; it is a blessing!
II. The blessing of grace! The Lord God Almighty initiates the relationship with Abraham v.1. Receive His grace.
III. The blessing of faith! The Lord told Abraham to leave his household, family and land. Abraham obeyed straight away. Abraham followed the Lord’s instruction without information. Faith is belief plus obedient response. Live in and by faith.
IV. The blessing of favor! The Lord promised to make Abraham a great nation in spite of his age, barrenness and history. The Lord promises to do the same for you. v.2
IV. The blessing of a blessing! This blessing means The Lord is endowing you with His character, competencies and culture! According to the distinguished Old Testament scholar, Walter Bruggemann, The Lord’s blessings are concrete, dynamic and specific. v.2
V. The blessing of influence! When you move to another land, normally your production is limited; your wealth is reduced and your reputation diminishes. The Lord promises Abraham that He will reverse all three with this promise: Your name will be great! Abraham’s name will have influence! v.2
VI. The blessing of being a blessing! The Lord promised Abraham that he would be a conduit of blessings, not just a recipient. v.2 You are blessed to be a blessing!
VII. The blessing of Divine alignment! The Lord promised to bless those who blessed Abraham; and, curse “him” who curses Abraham. Notice the promise of blessing is plural and the promise of the curse is singular. The curse is singular because failing to align with The Lord thru Abraham is very important to The Lord. As a result, He promises to curse those particular folk individually, not collectively. v.3
VIII. Summary
The Abrahamic Covenant blessings are for the followers of Jesus Christ! Your words influence your world! Speak these blessings over yourself and your family! Actualize these blessings with your confession and trust!
Position yourself! Align yourself with what The Lord has for you! Your situation does not get the last word; The Lord does!
