“I AM STILL IN THE ROOM!”
Mark 7:24-30

INTRODUCTION
Today we will revisit last week’s powerful and provocative passage: the woman, whom Jesus likened to a dog, who won the “argument” with Jesus! The Syro Phoenician woman wanted Jesus to cast a demon out of her daughter. The Greek mother was desperate; but, she did not allow her desperation to cloud her decision-making. By the way, neither should you!
The desperate mom had a defined four-part strategy to get her demon-possessed daughter healed: 1) take a bold stance – v. 26; 2) offer a “but “statement – v. 27; 3) give a brilliant saying – v. 28; and 4) receive a blessed shift! – vv.29, 30
FOUR-FOLD STRATEGY
- BOLD – The mother approached Jesus, a Jewish male rabbi, in spite of the gender, geopolitical, ethnic, cultural, and religious differences. Another sign of boldness is that she did not take Jesus’ initial unsupportive response as His final answer. The mother pressed Jesus for the answer she needed. Approach Jesus boldly!
- BUT – The mother’s humble request was met with a “but” statement from Jesus. Life is full of “buts”. Don’t let the “buts” in this life beat you up or beat you down. Stay focused on your objective, not the “buts”! This mom stayed focused. You can be too!
- BRILLIANT – Per Jesus, the mother’s response to Jesus’ “but” statement was quite a saying. Her saying was so striking that Jesus granted the Mom’s request immediately. Her saying reflected both her faith in Jesus and her wit. What a brilliant combo! Where is your faith? Where is your wit?
- BLESSINGS – Jesus healed the woman’s daughter! The demon left. The daughter was made whole. Do you want wholeness? Take bold steps; handle life’s “buts”; and offer brilliant sayings!
Let’s take a closer look at two (2) elements of the mother’s strategy:
BE BOLD! MARK 7:26, 28; HEBREWS 4:14-16
- In the Old Testament, the High Priest was the supreme religious leader of Israel. He was the one person allowed to enter the Most Holy Place in the Temple.
- In this passage, Jesus is recognized as The Ultimate Meditator Who represents us to The Most High God; The Perfect Sacrifice; and The Sinless Advocate.
- As a result, we no longer need a human priest or a Temple to talk to The Lord God Almighty!
- Approach the throne of grace as a forgiven and free Follower Of The Way!
KEEP BEGGING! MARK 7:26
- In the original Greek text, the verb “kept asking” is written in the imperfect tense (erota). This describes a continuous, ongoing, and repeated action.
- The mother continuously begged Jesus to cast out the demon from her daughter.
- There are numerous examples of folk continuously begging Jesus for a blessing:
- Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue Mark 5:22, 23
- Blind Bartimaeus Mark 10:47, 48
- The Roman Centurion Matthew 8:5, 6
- The Man with Leprosy Luke 5:12,13
- These passages, among others, clearly suggest there are blessings and benefits to begging the Blesser!
- The Lord may have a blessing for you that is stuck in your mouth simply because you will not cry out. Open your mouth!
