Understanding My Praise Series: Yadah Edition

Psalm 150:6 (CSB)
“Let everything that breathes praise the Lord. Hallelujah!”

“So I will bless you as long as I live; at your name, I will lift up my hands.”

What Is Yadah?

Praise is the outward expression of our inward recognition of who God is.

Yadah is a Hebrew word that means to praise God with lifted hands as an expression of gratitude, trust, and surrender.

The Three Dimensions of Yadah

1. Gratitude: Thank You, God

Yadah begins with gratitude. When we lift our hands in praise, we acknowledge that God has been better to us than we deserve. Gratitude shifts our focus from our frustrations to God’s faithfulness. Every blessing, opportunity, and breath we have is a gift from Him.

When we practice Yadah, we are saying:

“Lord, thank You for bringing me this far, and thank You for never giving up on me.”

2. Dependence: We Need God

Lifted hands are a visible sign that we depend on God. In a world that encourages self-reliance, Yadah reminds us that our strength comes from the Lord. David understood that his victories were not achieved through his own abilities but through God’s power at work in his life.

Dependence is not weakness—it is recognizing the true Source of our strength.

When we lift our hands, we declare:

“God, I can’t do this on my own, but with You all things are possible.”

3. Surrender: I Trust Your Power

Yadah is also an act of surrender. It is trusting God with the things we cannot control and choosing His will over our own. Raised hands symbolize releasing our plans and embracing God’s purpose.

Surrender requires faith because it means believing that God’s way is better than our own.

When we lift our hands in worship, we are saying:

“Lord, I trust You even when I don’t understand You.”

Conclusion

Yadah is more than a form of praise—it is a posture of the heart.

It reflects a life that is:

• Grateful for what God has done
• Dependent on what God can do
• Surrendered to what God desires to do

When life becomes overwhelming, let your Yadah remind you that God has been faithful before and He will be faithful again. When challenges arise, lift your hands and remember that your help comes from the Lord. When you cannot see the next step, trust that the God who holds your future is already there.

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Let your Yadah be the evidence that your trust is in Him.
