Recharging My Faith

Romans 10:17 (NIV)
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Definition: Recharge

To recharge means to restore energy, strength, or vitality that has been depleted. Spiritually, it is the process of being renewed and strengthened by the presence, power, and Word of God—restoring spiritual energy so we can continue living and serving with joy, faith, purpose, and peace.

Introduction

We are living in a loud season. Every time we open our phones, there’s another headline—immigration concerns, rumors of wars, violence, tension, and fear about the future. For many people, that fear isn’t just something they see online; it’s something they feel at home, at school, or in their communities.

On top of that, there’s pressure everywhere: pressure to fit in, pressure to succeed, and pressure to have life figured out when you’re still trying to survive. In a world like this, faith doesn’t usually disappear all at once—it slowly drains.

That’s why Romans 10:17 matters so much right now. It reminds us that faith doesn’t grow by accident. Faith grows—or drains—based on what we are listening to.

Point 1: What I Hear Shapes My Faith

What I listen to every day is shaping what I believe. If all I hear is fear, anxiety, bad news, and worst-case scenarios, my faith will feel weak. Many of us are constantly surrounded by voices that make us feel scared, uncertain, or powerless.

Paul tells us that faith comes by hearing. That means our faith is either being built up or broken down by the voices we allow into our lives. If we want our faith to be recharged, we must be intentional about what we’re feeding it.

Point 2: God’s Word Is the Only Voice I Can Trust

There are a lot of voices speaking right now—the news, social media, opinions, and rumors. Not all of them are telling the truth.

God’s Word is different. When we hear God’s Word, we’re not just hearing information; we’re hearing truth. We’re reminded that God is still in control, even when the world feels chaotic. He sees the vulnerable, He cares for the fearful, and He has not forgotten this generation.

In a world full of noise and confusion, God’s Word is the one voice that remains steady and trustworthy.

Point 3: Recharged Faith Replaces Fear with Courage

Paul doesn’t say faith comes by having all the answers—he says faith comes by hearing. That means we can still have strong faith even when we don’t understand everything happening around us.

When our faith is rooted in God’s voice rather than our circumstances, fear no longer controls us. Panic doesn’t lead our decisions. We can stand firm, confident that God is faithful even in uncertain times.

Conclusion: Change the Playlist, Recharge the Faith

Creative graphic idea: headphones, volume bars, or a playlist titled “Faith Over Fear.”

Think about this: Dr. Dre Beats headphones are designed to amplify sound. They don’t choose the music—they just make whatever you play louder.

If you open your phone and press play on a playlist filled with negativity, fear, and chaos, the headphones amplify that. But when you change the playlist, the sound changes too.

That’s exactly how faith works. Faith doesn’t create the message—it amplifies what you listen to. If all you hear is fear from the news and anxiety from social media, fear gets louder. But when you change the playlist and begin listening to God’s Word, faith gets louder.

Many of us have access to worship, Scripture, and truth—but we keep pressing play on things that drain us. If faith comes by hearing, then recharging our faith starts with changing what we’re listening to.

Altar Call / Salvation

This morning, if you’re being honest, you know your faith has been running low—and you’re ready to change the playlist.

For some of you, that begins with giving your life to Jesus for the first time. For others, it means coming back after drifting away. Either way, this moment is for you.

Jesus isn’t asking you to have it all together. He’s asking you to trust Him. If that’s you, respond as we pray together and invite God to take control of your life and begin recharging your faith from the inside out.
