Scripture Reading:

Psalm 34; II Peter 1:3-10; Psalm 25; Psalms 102:1-12; Proverbs 4:23; Proverbs 10:25

Reflections of the Heart:

Any person who hears the Word of truth – that Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, has come in the flesh and died on the cross as God’s substitute sacrifice for the sin of mankind – and then denies in his heart and does not confess with his mouth that God resurrected Jesus from the dead, has essentially opted for death, the mission of suicide. We know that In Christ there is only life of the Creator God and there is no death in God. It is satan who comes to kill, steal and destroy, so his name is synonymous with suicide.

Scriptural Prayer:

Almighty God, we all join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to You, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 15:6) O our Strength, to You we sing praises, for You, O God, are our refuge, the God who shows us unfailing love. (Psalms 59:17) So we praise You for the glorious grace You have poured out on us who belong to Your dear Son, Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 1:6) Thank You, Abba Father, for sending to us Your Holy Spirit, our Counselor who is always available to us whenever we are in need. He is always present to remind believers of the love that You have showered upon us, and we are eternally grateful for that fact.

Heavenly Father, it is by Your great mercy that we have been born again, because You raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance – an inheritance that is kept in heaven for us, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. We decree that through our faith, You are protecting us by Your power until we reach this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So we believers are truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though we have to endure many trials for a little while. Our trust in You through these trials will show that our faith is genuine. We confess that it is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold – though our faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when our faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring You much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. (I Peter 1:3-7) But, Father, there are some believers who are plagued with suicidal thoughts. It may be that the cares of this world are too burdensome for them. Or perhaps they have physical or psychological illnesses that are too great for them to bear. Whatever their problems, Lord, we confess that their thoughts result from the work of satan, for the thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. Your purpose, Father, is to give us a rich and satisfying life. (John 10:10) We realize that all of us together are Your temple and that Your Spirit lives in us. You will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For Your temple is holy, and we are that temple. (I Corinthians 3:16-17) We confess that You sent Your Son to destroy the works of the devil. (I John 3:8b) Father, we declare that we will encourage those who have suicidal thoughts not to worry about anything, but instead to pray about everything. They must tell You what they need, and thank You for all You have done. Then they will experience Your peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. We expect Your peace to guard their hearts and minds as they live in Christ Jesus. One final thing: we will counsel our brothers and sisters who struggle with suicidal thoughts to fix their thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. They must think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. If they keep putting into practice all they learned and received from Your Word, then You, the God of peace, will be with them. (Philippians 4:6-9) Lord our God, You live among us. You are a mighty Savior. You take delight in all of Your people with gladness. With Your love, You calm all our fears. You rejoice over us with joyful songs. (Zephaniah 3:17) We declare that those who have suicidal thoughts will hear and embrace the truth that You will strengthen and guard them from the evil one. (II Thessalonians 3:3) For You give power to the weak and strength to the powerless. (Isaiah 40:29)

Our generous God, we ask You for the wisdom we need in our interactions with persons who have suicidal thoughts. (James 1:5) We pray that persons who have thoughts of self destruction will learn of Your unfailing love and come to You as their refuge, a place of safety when they are in distress. (Psalms 59:16) When they are suffering and in pain, we covet that You will rescue them, O God, by Your saving power. (Psalms 69:29) Redeem their lives and snatch them from the power of the grave. (Psalms 49:15) Holy Spirit, remind believers that we are to accept other believers who are weak in faith (Romans 14:1) and that we must be compassionate, just as our heavenly Father is compassionate. (Luke 6:36) Remind those who have suicidal thoughts that the Word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes one’s innermost thoughts and desires (Hebrews 4:12) so that the truth can become known by all.

Holy Spirit, bring to my mind those in my sphere of influence who are plagued by suicidal thoughts and counsel me to speak to them as would Christ.

Merciful Father, in keeping with Your magnificent, unfailing love, please pardon the sins of the repentant in heart of Your people. (Numbers 14:19a) Have mercy on those who are in distress, whose tears blur their eyes, and whose body and soul are withering away. (Psalms 31:9) Their mistake may be that they don’t know the Scriptures, and don’t know Your power. (Matthew 22:29) Father, when Your people come before You in sincere repentance, forgive their lack of compassion for our fellow believers who are struggling with thoughts of suicide. Father, forgive me for (list the sins, say them out loud to the Lord).

Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He shows you, say out loud, “I forgive name of person(s).”)

Holy Spirit, remind believers having suicidal thoughts not to yield to temptation, because Jesus Christ has come to destroy the works of the evil one.

Our God, You are our rock, in whom we find protection. You are our shield, the power that saves us, and our place of safety. You are our refuge, our savior, the one who saves us from violence. (II Samuel 22:3) Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in power. Your right hand, O Lord, smashes the enemy. (Exodus 15:6) Your brilliant splendor fills the heavens, and the earth is filled with Your praise! (Habakkuk 3:3b) In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
