Prayer Topic #13

A Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Holy Spirit

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 136, Joel 2:28

Reflections of the Heart:

In Acts chapter one, Jesus gave His disciples the instruction to go to Jerusalem and wait until they received the gift of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Along with this divine gift, they received power to be witnesses for Christ. We too have received the dunamis (power) of the Holy Spirit, therefore let us proclaim Christ everywhere we go!

Scriptural Prayer:

We are thankful to You, Father, that You sent us the promised Advocate as the representative of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ – the Holy Spirit – to teach us and remind us of everything to which You sent Jesus to earth to testify. We praise You, Abba Father, and thank You for loving us so much that You sent Your Holy Spirit to be among Your people. We praise You, Holy Spirit, as God’s applied grace and supplication and truth manifested in holiness and eternal life in believers. We thank You, we love You, and we greatly appreciate Your work of leading us into all truth. Thank You for producing in our lives love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Creator God, You are our source of eternal life and love.  You have given us Your Word of Truth in Jesus Christ which cannot change.

Holy Spirit, as we prepare for and celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, we confess that the same Holy Spirit who resurrected Jesus from the dead now dwells within us. It is the Holy Spirit who gives life to our mortal bodies, just as He has given life to Christ and raised Him from the dead. Holy Spirit, are our Comforter and our Helper. You are Holy. We depend on You to remind us of everything Jesus taught while He lived on the earth. You are God’s power source, and You are the Teacher of all truth. We thank You for being God’s Representative in the earth, the One through whom God relates to all believers, the Producer of the Fruit of the Spirit and our Advocate. We love You, Holy Spirit, and thank You for working through us to perform miracles, signs, and wonders so that people will experience the Kingdom of God. We will yield daily to the leading, guiding, and instructing of the Holy Spirit so that we may be effective and efficient conduits of His love, power, and presence.

What, specifically, do you need the Holy Spirit to help you with in this season?

Holy Spirit, when we are in difficult situations, we ask that it will not be us who speak but it will be You speaking through us. We ask, Father, that we may have the attitude of children so that the Holy Spirit will reveal things to us and we may be filled with joy. We ask for the restoration of Your church, Lord, so that all Your people will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even speaking in other languages as Your Spirit gives them this ability. We pray for new believers to receive the Holy Spirit. Encourage and help us, Holy Spirit, to mirror the life of Jesus, using Your power to do good and heal those oppressed by the devil. Remind us, Holy Spirit, that we are Your temple, so that we will not do what our sinful nature craves as we live our lives for the Lord, to whom we belong.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for at times bringing sorrow to the Holy Spirit by the way we live. Forgive those of us who stifle the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, caution those who have turned away from the true faith and have followed deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons, so that they may repent and be forgiven. Holy Spirit, remind us all of those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive.

Holy Spirit, help us all not to yield to temptation; but deliver us from the evil one.

Almighty God, the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it all belong to You. You are the God of gods and Lord of lords. You are the great God, the mighty and awesome God who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. You alone are worthy of praise because You alone perform such great miracles. In the majestic name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen!
