Prayer Topic #14:

A Prayer for Our Pastors and Laity Leadership

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 97, Ephesians 4:11-16

Reflections of the Heart:

How many of us can boldly say that we face a hostile world; but we still faithfully proclaim the truth of the Lord?  How many of us obey, regardless of the repercussions?  How many of us absorb blows from the enemy, only to turn and take the next step towards faith?  We thank God for our Pastors and Laity leadership who value God’s plan above all odds.

Scriptural Prayer:

Our Father in heaven, may Your Name be kept holy.  Lord, it is good to give thanks to You and to sing praises to You, the Most High.  We proclaim Your unfailing love in the morning, and Your faithfulness in the evening.  Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever.  We thank You, Father, for Pastors. Thank You for all of our Laity leaders who faithfully serve our Church Family. Thank You for leading, directing, and protecting our Pastors and Laity leaders and blessing their families.

Father, we believe that You have given us Pastors to feed us with knowledge and understanding.  How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news.  Lord, we confess that our Pastors rest in the shadow of the Almighty. They are not arrogant or quick-tempered, heavy drinkers or violent. They live devoted and disciplined lives.  We declare that our Pastors have a strong belief in the trustworthy message of Your Word and they teach wholesome Gospel.  We expect the Spirit of the Lord to always be upon them and to anoint them to preach the Good News to the poor.  You have sent them to comfort the brokenhearted, to proclaim the release of captives and freedom of prisoners.  You have sent them to tell those who mourn that the acceptable time of the Lord’s favor has come.  Lord, we confess that our Pastors and Laity leaders take on the form of servants, who are humble, obedient, and of no reputation.  We confess that Your spiritual gifts are given to each of them so that they can help others.  Having gifts differing according to the grace that has been given to them, we confess that they will use them to serve You and they will show kindness to others, and do it gladly.

Today, I pray specifically for Pastor(s) and the Laity leader(s) listed below:

Father, we ask You to give our Pastors and Laity leaders a complete knowledge of Your will and spiritual wisdom and understanding.  Increase discernment and revelation knowledge in them.  Stand with them and strengthen them so that Your message will be preached and heard by all.  Lord, please help them to lead balanced lives as they respond to the demands of ministry.  Increase their strength, energy, and endurance.  Help them to get the proper rest and to eat the proper foods.  Bless their spouses and children, and protect their homes and possessions.  We ask that Your favor, love, and joy overtake them.  Father, bless them with the desires of their hearts and encourage and embrace them with Your love.

Father, forgive us, as a Church Family, for not praying for our Pastors and Laity leaders.  Forgive those among us for murmuring, complaining and speaking idle words against them.  Forgive those of us for having doubt and unbelief about the vision You have given them.  Please forgive our Pastors and Laity leaders for any thoughts, words, or actions that were not pleasing to You.  Forgive them for any times of doubt, unbelief, or disobedience.  Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Lord, remind us all to forgive others and help us to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He reveals them, say, “I forgive name of person(s).”  Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Father, lead our Pastors and Laity leaders not into temptation but deliver them from the evil one.

Lord, Yours is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory and the majesty.  Everything in heaven and on earth is Yours.  Lord, this is Your Kingdom and we adore You as The One who is over all things.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
