Prayer Topic #9

A Prayer for Hope and Healing in The United States

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 105:1-8, Psalm 1

Reflections of the Heart:

When God called Moses to lead His people out of Egypt, the Lord reassured Moses that he could accomplish the job. Just as Moses had faith in God, we must have faith that God will carry out His perfect will here on earth through today’s political leaders. Offering up effective, fervent prayers for our political leaders will benefit our city, state, and nation more than murmuring and complaining ever will.  Pray for our local, state, and national political leaders so that we can live in peace.

Scriptural Prayer:

Our Father, as Your children, we thank You for hearing us as we pray for our nation, the United States of America. Thank You for blessing our communities with Your “shalom!”  Thank You, Father, for blessing those who trust in You, who have made You their hope and confidence. Thank You for loving us so much that You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem us from a life of despair and hopelessness. Gracious Father, we praise You with all our hearts. You merely spoke and the heavens were created. You breathed the word, and all of the stars were born.

Loving Father, we confess the residents in our nation will depart from evil and do good; they will all search for peace and work to maintain it. Our nation needs Your divine presence, wisdom, and guidance. Today, we declare that You, alone, are our refuge and place of safety. You are our God, and we trust in You. Lord, Your name is a strong fortress and those who run to You will find spiritual, emotional, and psychological protection. We confess that even though victims of violence and their families may feel pressure on every side by these tragedies, they will not be crushed and broken. They may feel perplexed, but they will not give up and quit. We declare that racial division will not consume our citizens’ hearts and minds. In Jesus’ name, we cancel the assignments of the spirits of racism, hate, anger, violence, murder, rage, and devastation. As Kingdom citizens, we render these spirits powerless. Immortal Father, we command justice to run down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream in America. As the Body of Christ, we renounce principalities of hatred and racism.  We confess that justice and righteousness will prevail in our nation, homes, workplaces, churches, schools and communities. Lord, we believe that You will raise us above the acts of racism, hate, injustice, and unrighteousness that our nation has witnessed.

Holy Spirit, I commit to pray for the following leaders this month:

Holy Spirit, please help our nation to heal from recent acts of violence and divisive political rhetoric.  Remind us to not sin by letting anger control us. Grant each of us the desire and commitment to walk daily in Your justice and righteousness without prejudice or partiality. Guide parents on how to talk with their children about these subjects in ways that will not instill fear, anger, hatred, or unforgiveness.  Speak to the hearts of our nation’s leaders to reach a solution concerning racism, hate groups, thugs who peddle race-based animosity and human agents of venom everywhere in America.

Abba Father, forgive our nation for acts of racism, hate, fear, and malice. Forgive our nation for its injustice, prejudice, and oppression.  Forgive those who seek to do evil instead of good.  Forgive leaders for loving power and money more than the people. Forgive us, the Body of Christ, for making our political decisions based on the opinions, rhetoric, and untruths of political pundits and talking heads who do not align their agendas with Yours. Forgive those leaders who say they are Christians, but conduct their affairs in a manner that opposes Your Word. Father, please have mercy on this nation. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind all governmental leaders and people of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive.  As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He reveals them to you, say, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, as citizens, help us not to yield to temptation but deliver us from the evil one.

Magnificent Lord, when You spoke, the world began! It appeared at Your command. You look down from heaven and see the whole human race. From Your throne, You observe all who live on the earth. O Lord, our Lord, Your majestic name fills the earth!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
