A Prayer Concerning the Floods in Texas Hill Country
Scripture Reading:
II Samuel 22:1-4, 47, I Kings 8:35-40
Reflections of the Heart:
God is omniscient, so He knows all of the events that will affect our lives. Due to the fall and the evil that entered our universe, natural disasters will occur. It is our responsibility to be diligent in prayer, especially today as we intercede for families experiencing loss and devastation in Kerr County and surrounding areas. As the death toll continues to rise and these communities continue to search for missing loved ones, let us pray without ceasing.
Scriptural Prayer:
Abba Father, We thank You, Lord God, for You are our Rock, our Fortress, and our Savior; You are our Rock, in whom we find protection. You are our Shield, the Power that saves us, and our place of safety. Thank You, Abba Father, for the plans You have for us. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give us a future and hope. Thank You for protecting our city and nation during times of natural disasters in the past. Thank You for the miracles that have been reported during this time of tragedy. We sing praises to You and to Your name! We sing loud praises to You who ride the clouds. Your name is the Lord, and we rejoice in Your presence! Father, to the fatherless, defender of widows – You are God, whose dwelling is holy. Your faithful love never ends! Your mercies never cease. Great is Your faithfulness; Your mercies begin afresh each morning.
Omnipresent Father, when hurricanes, floods, fires, earthquakes, or any other natural disasters strike, we confess that we will stand steadfast in faith and declare Your Word, and we stand on your Word today. We declare that You are a refuge for the communities impacted by the recent floods; we declare that they will make You, the Most High, their shelter. No evil will conquer these communities; no plague will come near their homes. Your Word states that You command Your angels to protect us wherever we go. Therefore, we expect angels to hold up the families in Kerr County and we ask you to release ministering angels to the families of children who were at the summer camps. We thank you for comforting those who mourn and helping the communities rebuild. We decree that those impacted by the flood are led by God to a place of safety; they are rescued because God delights in them. We proclaim that those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in Your shadow, Almighty God.
Holy Spirit, help those in Texas Hill Country who have been impacted by floods to rebuild. Send them resources and cause believers and communities of support to donate relief supplies. We pray for provision and integrity with insurance companies. Give business owners, churches, schools, camps, and homeowners the resources they need to be sustained during the seasons ahead. Pour out your wisdom to search and recovery crews and volunteers so that they know where to search for missing residents. Allow everyone to be accounted for. Remove fear, trauma, and guilt from survivors, and give them the perfect peace of Jesus. Touch the hearts of non-believers to trust in our Almighty Father and believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. If there are any breaches in the protective covering that surrounds these areas, reveal them to Christians within our state and cause us to repair them through prayer and obedience.
I will pray for communities and individuals impacted by the floods in the following ways:
Forgiving Father, forgive our many sins. Forgive those in Kerr County and the surrounding areas impacted by the floods for the sins they have committed. Forgive us, the body of Christ, for not always following Your principles and demonstrating Your love. Forgive those churches, Christian organizations, and businesses who did not heed to warnings about the flood and forgive local and national weather organizations and first responders for any delayed responses and communication. Lord, forgive them for their sins and help them forgive others. Forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed.) Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)
Amazing Father, help those impacted by the floods not to yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.
We know Your greatness, Lord – that You are greater than any other god. You do whatever pleases You throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths. You cause the clouds to rise over the whole earth. You send the lightning with the rain and release the wind from Your storehouses. Your name, O Lord, endures forever; Your fame, O Lord, is known to every generation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
