Prayer Topic #2:

A Declaration for the Weather in the Houston Metropolitan Area

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 29, I Kings 18:41-46

Reflections of the Heart:

Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.                                                                                                                  James 5:17-18

Scriptural Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the rain we have received this year in the Greater Houston Metropolitan Area. Thank You for having a perfect plan for our city and state, including our weather. Thank You for granting us the authority to speak peace to both spiritual and natural storms. Gracious Lord, we come singing a new song to You. We sing praises to You, our Maker. We will praise Your Name with dancing accompanied by the tambourine and harp. Lord, You delight in Your people and crown the humble with victory. We, the faithful rejoice that You honor us.  We will sing for joy as we lie on our beds.  You are an awesome King!

Today, using the power and authority Jesus Christ has given you, go outside and speak to the weather as you continue praying this prayer:

Worthy Father, we look to Jesus as our model and command peace to be still in the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.  We know that faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it’s the assurance about things we cannot see.  Therefore, by faith, we confess that the sea surface temperature in the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico will not rise above 80 degrees. We confess that the wind shear in the Atlantic will cut any storms off in the development stage and hinder vertical rings of clouds from forming. We confess that the barometric pressure and air density will not drop to a level that would allow violent storm and hurricane disturbances.  We declare calm weather for the Houston Metropolitan Area and the Gulf Coast region.  We decree that the weather will be a perfect balance of sunshine, rain and moderate temperatures.

Holy Spirit, help us to continue to walk in boldness and authority and expect the weather to be calm as we decree Your Word over the weather.  Lord Jesus, You said we could ask anything in Your Name, so we ask You to touch the hearts of believers throughout our region to decree Your Word concerning the weather.

Faithful Father, forgive the residents of our city for all acts of sinfulness that would cause the weather to respond in a harmful way.  Forgive us for not believing that all things are possible through Jesus Christ who strengthens us.  Forgive us for walking in doubt, unbelief, arrogance, and pride.  Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed).  Holy Spirit, remind us all of those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive.  As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He reveals them, say, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help us all not to yield to temptation but deliver us from the evil one.

Majestic Lord, You are the blessed and only Sovereign One.  You are the King of kings and Lord of lords, who rides across the ancient heavens.  O God, You are awesome in Your sanctuary.  You are the God of Israel who gives strength and power to Your people.  Blessed are You, forever.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
