He Loved Me Enough to be late
John 11:1-6
This is a story about a Messiah with a message coming to deal with the mess to help us understand the perspective of this story I will briefly explain the difference in the four gospels each of them present Jesus in a different manner in,
- Matthew he is the Messiah
- Mark he is the servant
- Luke he is the son of man the perfect human
- John he is the son of God or God in the flesh
Matthew, Mark Luke are called. The Synoptic Gospels (General View). Which means
They focus more on What JESUS Did! They begin with his human genealogy and tell of his fulfillment of Jewish prophecy.
John however focuses on Who JESUS IS!!!! John begins with his divine revelation and. Eternal existence John 1: IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD!!!
Now the RELEVANCE of the previous information is that Jesus the MESSIAH has a MESSAGE to DEAL with OUR MESS. Our dismay, disapproval, and ignorance of his divine plan as GOD.
But he can help us BECAUSE of WHO HE IS!!!!! He can help us frustrations, consternations, and lack of revelation ABOUT HIS TIMING. To support this argument, I want to tell the story of John 11:1-36.
The Subjects of this study are Lazarus, Mary, and Martha
The Students of this study are the disciples, the citizens of Bethany and by proxy of the written word. You and I today.
Jesus is the Master Teacher. The I AM of All instructors.
Serious Sentences. These are. Statement made by Jesus that must be unpack/revealed so that we can understand WHO HE IS and WHO WE ARE!
Serious Sentence #1 V3 Therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.”
The Subjects did everything “right” here. They were Worshippers, Workers and Loved who they worshipped and worked for!
YET! Jesus DID NOT HURRY!!!
Serious Sentence#2 V4 He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
In Essence he said. “IT AINT THAT BAD”!
GOD IS GOING TO GET THE GLORY OUT OF THIS!!!!
Serious Sentence #3 5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was.
He stayed TWO MORE DAYS!!!!!!
The Subjects and the Students need to wrap our mind around this. GOD KNOWS THINGS WE DON’T. And HE IS NOT COMPELLED to TELL YOU EVERYTHING UP FRONT!!!
WHY?
Serious Sentence#4 Verse 14 Then Jesus said to them plainly, “Lazarus is dead. 15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, that you may believe. Nevertheless, let us go to him.”
He’s Dead! Also, They left, you lost, you didn’t get the job,
Why was Jesus “Late”
I. He had to Confronted our Assumptions V 20-21
Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house. 21 Now Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”
She assumed he was late by accident not by appointment.
She assumed that he hadn’t already spoke to God.
She assumed that worship, work, and love = privilege.
II. He to Clarify his Assignment and Confirmed our Belief V 25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
III. He had to Canceled “their” negative Conversations of the CongregationV 35-36
35 Jesus wept. 36 Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!”
37 And some of them said, “Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?”
Remember Lazarus “Death” was going to give GOD the GLORY. Our “Deaths” will do the same.
- It will be PUBLIC everyone will see IT
- It will be POWERFUL no one can discredit IT
- It will be PROLIFIC God will KEEP ON DOING IT!
IV. He had to show that HE can Conquer Death part 1
- Jesus gave a preview of coming attractions
- Jesus revealed that he could walk it like he talked it.
- Jesus showed what he going to do in John 14
- COME FORTH!!!!!!!
