New Members’ Orientation & Graduation FAQs
We’ll see you at an upcoming New Members’ Orientation & Graduation Weekend. Until then, below are a few questions you may want answered as you continue your pathway to Windsor Village Church Family (WVCF) membership.
Q: I joined with my family. Will we all have to attend the Orientation and Graduation Weekend together to become members?
A: The good news is that when a parent joins the WVCF, the entire household is represented at the Orientation and Graduation Weekend, which is especially designed for adults ages 18 and up. The other good news is a special youth confirmation session is held for youth in middle school and high school who join the WVCF with their families. For more information about the youth confirmation, please contact LaToya Ashley at 713.723.8187, ext. 2620, or at email@example.com.
Q: Will childcare be available?
A: Yes. Childcare will be available for children ages three (3) to 5th Grade. Children must be potty-trained. You will be able to register for childcare when you register online for the Orientation and Graduation Weekend.
Q: Is it required that I attend the orientation and graduation class that occurs immediately after I join the WVCF?
A: It is not required but it is highly encouraged. The sooner you begin your spiritual process and begin to leverage new membership benefits, the better! During the Orientation and Graduation Weekend, you will connect with new people and learn: how to gain full access to Member Resources; what defines the unique culture of the WVCF; what makes our history “history making”; what does it mean to be a son or daughter of the WVCF (there are 48 and counting); how to find your distinctive place in the crowd; and so much more.
Q: If an emergency comes up and I am not able to attend, what do I do?
A: If you are unable to attend, please email us as soon as you can at firstname.lastname@example.org and/or call 713.723.8187, ext. 2630, and leave a message. Make sure you register for the next scheduled Orientation and Graduation Weekend when you are able to attend.
Q: What does it mean to be baptized?
A: You will gain a fuller understanding of what it means to be baptized and how to be baptized at your new church home during the Orientation and Graduation Weekend. Until then, briefly, we offer the following for your consideration:
“One of the great celebrations in the life of a congregation happens when a new Christian is made through the sacrament of baptism. Whether that person is a baby, a youth, or an adult, the meaning is the same. Christ Jesus welcomes a new Christian into fellowship, and the congregation, which is there to bear witness, makes a commitment to help that person grow into full discipleship.
Baptism is the outward sign of God’s claim on your life. The water that covers us at baptism is a sign of God’s grace poured into us. Baptism, in other words, ushers us into a whole new life. If we think about the water of baptism as the image of God’s grace, then learning to swim in those waters is nothing less than learning what it means for our lives to live completely immersed in the grace of God.” (Baptism in Our Daily Discipleship, Andrew C. Thompson)
Q: Where can I go to find out what activities are going on at my new church home before the next scheduled Orientation and Graduation Weekend?
A: There is always something going on at “The Village,” and you’ll find activities and events for all ages. Click here for the upcoming events and how to connect.
Q: I am ready now to serve in a ministry. Do I have to wait for the Orientation and Graduation Weekend to get involved?
A: We love your enthusiasm and welcome your gifts! We know that when you begin to serve, it can make a big church smaller. May we suggest that, if you can, to postpone your decision on ministry service until you attend the Orientation and Graduation Weekend. Why wait? The information and spiritual gifts assessment you will receive will give you greater insight into the places you can serve and help you make your best decision. Additionally, if you are interested in serving in a leadership position, you must complete the Orientation and Graduation Weekend and become a member before doing so.
Q: If I need prayer or have a prayer request now, what do I do?
A: Please call the Prayer Hotline at 713.721.4821 or submit your request here.
