The other day I was walking with my child in the rain. When we first started, it was only sprinkling. Nothing too serious. She held the umbrella while we walked together, talking and making our way home. But as we continued walking, the rain began to come down harder and harder. By the time we reached home, it was pouring. 3
What amazed me was this: I was completely soaked, but my child was dry.
At that moment, the Lord began to minister to my heart about what it means to live under the umbrella of His covering and blessing.
So many things are happening in the world right now. Trouble. Fear. Uncertainty. Pressure. Storms seem to be increasing everywhere we look. Yet there is a difference between being in the storm and being exposed to it without covering.
My child was in the same rain I was in, walking the same path I was walking, during the same storm I was experiencing. But because she remained under the umbrella, the rain did not affect her the same way it affected me.
That’s what it’s like to be under the covering of God.
Being under God’s umbrella does not always mean storms won’t come. Sometimes the rain still falls. Sometimes the winds still blow. Sometimes the world around us feels chaotic and uncertain. But when we stay under His protection, His presence, and His will, the storms of life do not impact us the same way they impact the world.
Others may be overwhelmed, but God gives us peace.
Others may be consumed with fear, but God gives us confidence.
Others may lose hope, but we remain anchored because we know Who covers us.
Psalm 91:1 says:
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
There is safety in staying close to God.
There is protection in abiding under His shadow.
There is peace in remaining under His umbrella.
What stood out to me most was that my child trusted the umbrella completely. She didn’t panic when the rain got heavier. She didn’t try to outrun the storm. She simply stayed covered.
What if we trusted God like that?
What if instead of panicking when life gets harder, we stayed under His covering?
What if instead of running in fear, we rested in His promises?
What if we truly believed that even in the middle of the storm, God knows how to keep His children?
Isaiah 43:2 reminds us:
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.”
Notice He didn’t say we would never walk through rain or rivers. He promised they would not overtake us.
The storm may still be falling, but under God’s umbrella, we are covered.
Stay under His presence.
Stay under His Word.
Stay under His will.
The rain may be pouring, but God still knows how to keep His children dry.
